Domestic violence is a serious issue in our society today.  No one understands that better than the caring staff at the Sojourner Family Peace Center.  For many years, Carmen Pitre has led the growth and development of this organization, including the construction of their current campus at the corner of North 6th and West Walnut Streets.  Sojourner offers a safe and healing place for women that have been the victims of abuse, and their children.  Established in 1975, the Peace Center provides an array of support aimed at helping families affected by domestic violence achieve safety, justice, and wellbeing.  In addition, Sojourner offers training to employers to show them how they can help victims of abuse stay safe in their places of work.  Please go to their website to see all the ways you can support the work of this great institution (www.familypeacecenter.org).

In addition to donating a portion of the proceeds to Sojourner in July, we are proud to sponsor an epic rock concert on July 31 at Turner Hall at 1040 North Vel Phillips Avenue downtown, supporting two great causes:  Sojourner Peace Center and Givesong (www.givesong.org).  Givesong is a fundraising platform that allows artists to give back, while continuing to make money through their art.  The headline acts this evening is Sponge, who is supported by the legendary Peter DiStefano and Milwaukee’s own SACRED.  The Five O’Clock Steakhouse’s owner Stelio is also a member of SACRED so you don’t want to miss them.  Check out all their upcoming shows on the band’s website:  www.sacred.band.
